Additional Benefits for Suppression

Group Photo E52 022721Fremont firefighters perform fire suppression, emergency medical assistance, and hazardous materials mitigation activities in support of the overall mission of the Fire Department. Because of their dedication to others, suppression personnel are eligible to receive the following benefits:

  • Paramedic Pay Premium @ 10% of the top step of firefighter pay
  • Paramedic Recertification $2,500 Biannually
  • Emergency Medical Technician Pay @ 2.5% of Base Salary
  • Uniform Allowance of $700 per year
  • Education Incentive for Associate and Bachelor’s Degrees
  • Sick Leave of 12 hours per month for 56-hour Staff
  • General Leave for New Recruits of 158 hours per year
  • Special Assignment Pay for Special Operations Task Force (SOTF), Tiller Premium, Staff Captain, and Fire Investigator
  • Longevity Pay (beginning at 19 years of service)

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Everyone may need help at one time or another. When you or your family members need a professional counseling service, the City-sponsored Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers five face-to-face counseling sessions and unlimited telephone consultations for your benefit.

Additionally, the City EAP provides guidance and referrals via telephone to help with all sorts of work and life challenges, such as:

  • Financial Service (credit counseling, debt and budgeting assistance, financial planning for college, retirement planning, etc.)
  • Legal Service (personal and family law, real estate, etc.)
  • Work-life Balance (identifying childcare and eldercare resources, finding a reliable plumber, etc.)
