Choosing a career as a Firefighter is one of the most challenging, exciting, and rewarding experiences out there. But let us be clear: firefighting is not glamorous. It’s a profession that is physically demanding and dangerous while also offering the opportunity to save and change lives, become a part of an emergency service family, and be a role model and community leader.
The Day-to-day Life as a Fremont Firefighter:
- You’ll live in the fire station, where you will eat and sleep, while on duty.
- When not on call, you’ll keep the station and equipment clean, train and support programs within the Department such as Special Operations Task Force (SOTF), Unmanned Aerial System (UAS/Drone), and Fire Investigation.
- You’ll work under constant supervision as Fire Recruits.
- You’ll have a desirable work schedule, typically scheduled 10 days per month (48-hour shifts).
- You’ll have training opportunities that may aid in career advancement.
Basic Requirements of New Academy Fire Recruits
Before applying to become a Fremont Firefighter, please make sure you meet our basic requirements:
- You must be a United States citizen or have the current legal right to work in the United States.
- You must be 18 years of age.
- You have graduated from an accredited high school, GED, or CHSPE.
- You must have a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of hire.
In addition to meeting our basic requirements, you must also have the following valid certificates:
- Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification issued within one year of your interview date at the time of interview.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate or a Paramedic License issued by the State of California, by the National Registry (NREMT-Basic), or by an EMT or Paramedic certifying agency approved by the State of California.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Card (Healthcare Provider/BLS Provider equivalent or higher).
